What is THC Spray? How to use Cannabis Oral Sprays

A THC spray is cannabis in a spritz.

Long gone are the days when the only way to use THC was by smoking cannabis. You can now medicate with all sorts of products, such as topical balms, oral tinctures, THC sprays, and many more.

Today, we’ll cover one of the newer innovations in the cannabis space – THCsprays.

If you’re not familiar with THC sprays, how they work, and what they can do for you, this guide will provide you with all the information you need to know before trying them out.

But before we launch into learning about sprays, let’s cover what THC itself is.

What is THC?

THC is the common abbreviation for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive compound in weed that induces a psychoactive high. Cannabis contains hundreds of these compounds, which are known as cannabinoids.

All mammals, including humans, produce cannabinoids. Internally-produced cannabinoids are called endocannabinoids and can be found in our endocannabinoid system

The endocannabinoid system contributes to regulating sleep, appetite, pain, stress, and several other processes.  Because our bodies already produce these compounds, we naturally receive the phytocannabinoids (cannabinoids from plants) in cannabis.

When cannabinoids such as THC enter our bodies, they bind to CB1 receptors. CB1 receptors are located in the brain and central nervous system and play a prominent role in regulating pain, inflammation, and dopamine production.

It is through this binding that THC can deliver its psychoactive effects.

THC also interacts with the prefrontal cortex, the brain area that modulates behaviour, impulse control, attention span, and more. This interaction is what leads to the feelings associated with being high.

Due to the amazing properties of THC and its ability to make us high, we can now find myriad types of THC products such as THC vape pens, edibles, and THC tinctures available on the market.

THC sprays are less well-known but equally deserving of consideration for any consumer out of these many products.

Intro to THC Sprays

THC sprays are similar to oral tinctures, with the basic components being a cannabis extract and a carrier liquid, such as MCT or coconut oil.

Like tinctures, some sprays also have flavouring added to mask the taste of the carrier oil. Whereas tinctures usually come with a dropper for sublingual administration, sprays (as the name suggests) come in a spray bottle.

THC sprays are available in various concentrations.

For instance, lower concentration THC sprays are great for new cannabis users. Low THC products are unlikely to produce an intensely psychoactive experience. However, they should still be approached with caution by anyone who doesn’t use cannabis regularly and those with a low cannabis tolerance

More experienced cannabis consumers may wish to seek out a higher concentration spray to get their desired effects. A single spray will usually contain anywhere from 0.5mg to 3mg of THC.

Hybrid THC and CBD spray products are also available. These sprays provide the benefits of both cannabinoids

CBD is non-psychoactive and helps a range of issues, such as inflammation, anxiety, insomnia, and more.

Additionally, pairing THC and CBD and other terpenes together contributes to a phenomenon known as an “entourage effect,” meaning they mutually boost each other’s efficacy for maximum benefit.

How do You Use THC Spray?

Sprays are easy and intuitive to use.

Simply spritz some spray onto the inside of your cheek or under your tongue and let the product absorb. Newcomers should start with one spray (or even half a spray) to become accustomed to the effects before increasing to a higher dose.

Make sure to shake your bottle of THC spray well before using the spray, as the components will separate when left standing.

Quality THC sprays will also feature a child safety lock on the bottle to keep these potent products out of tiny hands.

What are the Benefits of Sprays?

thc spray benefits

There are numerous advantages of oral spray compared to other types of THC products.

Unlike smoking and vaping, THC sprays don’t involve your lungs, making them healthier to consume. Additionally, THC sprays are discreet and easy to use, so sprays are a good option worth considering for anyone looking to spritz them on the go.

Let’s cover some of these benefits more in-depth below.

Ease and Discretion

As we mentioned above, THC sprays are straightforward to use. All it takes is a simple, quick spray into the mouth to get all the product’s benefits.

Additionally, sprays are exceptionally discreet. There is no smoke or vapour, as there is with inhalation methods. A small bottle of THC spray could just as quickly be a breath freshener, so no one will be any the wiser if you use it in a public space.

Lung Health

Many cannabis consumers use inhalation methods because of the onset of effects. Inhaled cannabis hits the bloodstream rapidly through the lungs, and most users begin to feel the impact within 15 minutes.

Eaten cannabis, in comparison, must pass through the digestive system and can take up to 2 hours to kick in.

While vaping vs smoking is considered gentler on the lungs, both smoking and vaping have an inherent risk of lung damage. However, THC sprays have a significant advantage as they are smoke-free and do not involve the lungs.

They enter the bloodstream through the oral membrane and take effect nearly as quickly as inhalation, with most users feeling effects within 20 minutes or so.

Taste

Many THC sprays have added flavours to mask the taste of the carrier oil and provide a more enjoyable user experience.

Minty flavours are popular as they have the advantage of freshening breath too. Other sprays are flavoured to emphasize the taste of terpenes, the natural aromatic compounds found in cannabis.

Speed

Most users feel the effects of oral spray within 20 minutes, which is nearly as fast as vaping or smoking.

THC sprays are significantly faster than edible cannabis products, which take time to pass through the digestive system and often lose some potency along the way. This speed is especially beneficial when using an oral spray to relieve acute symptoms like pain or anxiety attacks.

THC Sprays – Simple & Effective

Cannabis users looking for a discreet, smoke-free alternative to their usual consumption methods may find that THC spray is the product they’ve been looking for.

Pure THC sprays offer a simple, effective way to enjoy the cerebral effects of cannabis. Hybrid THC and CBD sprays provide a mild buzz while combating inflammation, anxiety, and other ailments.

THC-free CBD sprays are ideal for those interested in the benefits of a spray without any psychoactive effects.

With such a wide variety of concentrations and flavours available, there’s sure to be an oral spray to suit everyone’s needs.

That being said, with such a wide range of THC products available, you are not limited to sprays.

Hooti tincture

If you are looking for fast products yet still discreet and easy to use, oral THC tinctures are another option for you. THC sprays are the same tinctures, but instead of a spray, oral tinctures come in drops for you to apply them under the tongue for fast effects.

Give them a try, and we hope you’ve found this information helpful in deciding if a THC spray product is right for you!

Stay safe and healthy!
